The Disappearing Rings of Saturn Description:
Our favorite ringed planet, Saturn, has a lengthy 29-year orbital period around the sun. In a given orbit, it will experience a pair of equinoxes and a pair of solstices. Saturn’s seasonal cycles have a dramatic impact on the appearance of its rings -- as seen from Earth. Join us for an exploration of Saturn’s ever-changing aesthetics, along with some projections and a discussion of the long-term future of the rings themselves. (Spoiler alert: The rings won’t last forever! But fear not, as they’re not going away in our lifetime…). Presenter: Mark Reiser, 6 pm and 7 pm on Dec 6.
