Rattlesnake Stories: Dams in the Rattlesnake Wilderness
2:00 PM (America/Denver)
Missoula Public Library
Description:
Join us on November 9, 2-3:30 pm to hear Morgan Valliant with Missoula Parks and Recreation’s Ecosystem Services Division present an update on the management of Missoula’s first drinking water system. In 2017, the City of Missoula purchased our community’s drinking water utility. This included Missoula’s first drinking water system; ten dams on eight lakes in the Rattlesnake Wilderness and one dam with a three million gallon reservoir on Rattlesnake Creek. A seven-year multi-partner collaboration has resulted in the removal and restoration of the dam and reservoir on Rattlesnake Creek and the McKinley Lake Dam in the Rattlesnake Wilderness. This presentation will highlight these two dam removal efforts and the planning efforts for the other eight dams.
