11/8 Family Clay Night: Fall Leaf Dishes Description:
Family Clay Night: Fall Leaf Dishes
Saturday, November 8
6-7:30PM
All ages
Registration is required for all people present, children under 16 cannot attend alone: an adult 16 must enroll with them as either a maker or helper.
Teaching Artist: Kaley Cross

Ticket Types:
Maker - $35 - a child or adult person intending to make a small project to be *fired, and picked up at a later date.
Helper - $25 - a supervising parent or trusted adult who will learn the project and help their child, but does not intend to keep their own project. Practice projects will be made to learn the techniques, but cannot be glazed, and will be recycled after the session. An additional $10 can be paid on-site the night of the activity if a helper decides to finish their practice project after all!

A creative and fun way to spend a Saturday evening with family and friends! A Clay Studio of Missoula teaching artist will lead a **small handbuilding project that can be fully completed in a 90-minute session. These projects will be easy to follow so little ones can join in, but will have plenty of room to customize for more experienced hands who want to riff on the idea to make something different. Those who have clay skills, and can follow studio "Golden Rules," can transform their project into something beyond the lesson, but may only use provided supplies, and must finish completely by the end of the session. (Please note, the teaching artist cannot teach a separate lesson for folks who wish to make independently).

In November we'll celebrate fall by making slab leaf dishes! We'll teach everyone how to use fallen leaves and botanicals for a fun and easy decorating method called botanical pressing. Then we'll use the slabs to create unique fall-themed dishes! We encourage participants to bring a small bag of their own leaves and stems for even more decoration options to explore: leaves, grasses, and flowers, even pieces like pine cones can make fun and interesting textures and patterns!

These sessions make a great entry point into the world of ceramics! Make a fun little project with people you love and have a relaxed, creative evening. If the clay bug bites you, adults (16 ) can enroll in future one-day sessions and 10-week classes for adults, and kids can enroll in our seasonal camps (spring break and summer) and special youth sessions (Fall and Winter Break)! If you want more, you and your family or friends are encouraged to schedule your own 2-hour private session!

*Projects to be fired must be built to be safe for our studio firing method, as cleared by a teaching artist. Parents or a trusted adult mentor must provide aide to children under 12 to ensure they follow studio "Golden Rules" so their projects can be fired. Refunds cannot be issued if a maker is not able to follow directions and a project is not safe to fire, or if pieces fall apart, break, or otherwise do not turn out as desired.

**Projects will have a scale limit, or will utilize a fixed amount of clay in order to moderate material and kiln space usage, to keep these sessions affordable!
