Teen Art Project: Languages Lost & Found Description:
February 10 through April 7 // Thursdays from 3 to 6 PM // FREE // Registration required

Teens work over 2 months to develop art techniques while collaborating on a group art project related to themes like poetry, language, zines, and public art! Teens will get hands-on experience organizing and preparing an exhibition of their individual and collaborative works of art in the Lela Autio Education Gallery at MAM. Limited to 12 teens and COVID protocols are in place.
No session on March 24 due to the spring break recess.

Taught by Jenny Montgomery.

During this winter TAP session, teens will create art while traveling through history, culture, and their imaginations asking the question: What languages have our culture granted us access to, and what lost languages are calling to us? Learn about the Salish language, plant medicine language, the language of constellations, and the language of fine art in addition to other languages students wish to explore. Students will get to speak with working artists about how they developed a personal artistic language through trial and error. Join the adventures in color, sound, image, shape, brain science, and more while leaping down the rabbit hole of language.

Open to middle- and high-school students.
