Description:
Date: Wednesday, January 14
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Location: MNHC
Cost: $35 MNHC members/$40 non-members
Guided by local artist, Courtney Blazon, participants will design and draw their own chimera—a fantastical creature composed of three of their favorite animals. We’ll begin by looking at examples of mythological hybrids and contemporary mash-ups for inspiration, then explore ways to combine features such as wings, tails, fur, scales, or horns into one cohesive creature. Specimens from our collections can provide models for your creation- we have a little bit of everything!
Using a mix of drawing materials—such as graphite, ink, colored pencil, and crayons—participants will learn techniques to layer textures, blend different styles, and bring their chimera to life with depth and personality.
Enjoy a beverage: wine, beer, or bubbly water and snacks while you work!
Instructor: Courtney Blazon is an artist and illustrator living and working in Missoula, MT. Blazon is a graduate from Parsons School of Design, receiving a BFA in Illustration. Blazon has shown in Montana at the Missoula Art Museum, Holter Museum of Art, Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, Northcutt Steele Gallery, and most recently, at Radius Gallery. Outside of Montana, Blazon has shown regionally and nationally. Blazon’s work has been featured in New American Paintings (Western Edition), Studio Visit Magazine, and juxtapoz.com. Blazon is a past recipient of a Montana Arts Council Artists Innovation Award and ARPA Grant. Blazon is represented by Radius Gallery in Missoula, MT
