Canadian Smocking for 3D Fabric Surfaces
3:00 PM (America/Denver)
Lifelong Learning Center
Description:
Discover the sculptural potential of fabric through Canadian smocking, a hand-sewing technique that transforms flat cloth into textured, dimensional surfaces. Like origami for fabric, this method uses grids and hand stitches to create intricate folds, pleats, and honeycomb patterns. You’ll learn three smocking styles, practice meditative handwork, and explore pattern mapping, stitching sequences, and surface manipulation. By the end, you’ll also learn to add piping, preparing your fabric for garments, quilts, bags, or pillows. All levels are welcome. Supplies will be discussed at the first class.
